Are we home yet?

"Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord-for we walk by faith, not by sight-we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.  Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him." -2 Corinthians 5:6-9 (NASB)
Several times each year my wife, daughter, and I travel from central Connecticut to western Pennsylvania to visit my family.  The journey to Grandma and Pappy's house takes about eight hours and fills my daughter with excitement.  Inevitably, the visit ends and it is time to return to our home.  At some point during the journey back home, my daughter will invariably ask, "Are we home yet?"

For a three year-old riding in the car seat in the backseat of the car, the ride must seem to take forever.  As Christians living on Earth, we experience the same feelings.  As Christians, we know that while we are in our earthly bodies we are not home yet.  While God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are with us everywhere, we are walking with them in faith, because we cannot see them.

It is important to walk in faith and to establish a relationship with God that is pleasing to Him.  Only God knows when our travels on Earth will be completed, so we must always be working for God while also being prepared for arrival at our eternal home.  We are reassured that there will be a day when we will be at home with the Lord.

When we reach that eternal home, there will be no doubt that the trip was worth it!  So, sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride with God.  How grand it will be when the family of believers is united in our Heavenly home!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for being with me all the time and for preparing an eternal home with You.  Please let me live a life that is pleasing in Your sight.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
