Commitments are made not just for the times when they are easy to fulfill. Sometimes our commitments seem to mean even more when we stand by them during the hard times. When Naomi's sons died she and her daughters-in-law were faced with grief and with decisions of how to move forward. Naomi encouraged both Orpah and Ruth to return to their people, but Ruth did not leave. Ruth loved her mother-in-law and loved God. Even though it she could have returned to her family, Ruth knew she needed to make a commitment to Naomi and more forward with her. When looking at our lives, we need to talk to God and allow Him to guide us in making commitments and then in honoring those commitments we make!
Ask God to help you know when to make a commitment and then to help you honor it!
Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for examples like Ruth that show me when to make commitments and how to honor the commitments that I make. Please guide me in my life as I make and work to honor my commitments. Through Jesus I pray, amen.
