Henry David Thoreau posed the question, "Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?" In life, we have many experiences of our own. We know that those around us have their own experiences, too. As we prepare to care for one another through sharing God's love, we need to remember to have empathy.
Having empathy requires us to look through another's eyes or feel what they could be feeling. Empathy does not mean feeling bad or having sympathy for others. Instead, we need to know each other and to try to understand different situations and perspectives. Knowing others allows us to rejoice when they are rejoicing and mourn when they are mourning. Getting to know each other can then allow us to share God's love and the Good News!
Get to know each other, have empathy, and share the Good News!
Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your love, understanding, and empathy. Help me to get to know others, to support them, and to share the Good News. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
