Healing to Service

"And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.  Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about her.  And He come to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she waited on them." -Mark 1:29-31 (NASB)
We experience sickness, especially during cold and flu season.  Sickness can drain our bodies, making us feel tired and weak.  God can restore us, but how should we respond?

In the scripture reading from Mark (1:29-31), Simon's mother-in-law was sick and had a fever.  Several disciples spoke to Jesus about the woman and He healed her.  What did Simon's mother-in-law do once she was healed?  She waited on Jesus and His disciples.  The King James translation says that Simon's mother-in-law got up and "ministered unto them."

We all experience times in our lives when we are sick, whether sick physically or sick spiritually.  We need to show the faith that Jesus' disciples exhibited and pray to God for healing.  Once we are healed, then we should respond the same way as Simon's mother-in-law.  We should wait on the Lord and serve others by ministering to them.

Whether you are recovering from sickness or living a renewed life through Him, remember to thank God and celebrate His healing through service to others.

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for being there to listen to me and heal me whenever I suffer from physical and spiritual sickness.  Please help me to trust in Your healing powers and allow me to celebrate healing by serving others and furthering Your kingdom.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
