No Separation!

1/31/2015

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 8:38-39 (NASB)
Recently, my daughter was sick.  She stayed home from school and all she wanted to do was lay on the couch with someone.  My usually independent daughter didn't want to be separated, especially during the time she wasn't feeling well.

We are often the same way with God.  When we are not feeling well or are experiencing difficulty, we look for God to be present and active in our lives.  God is faithful and will be there in our lives during these times, but He is also with us in the good times and the ordinary day to day times of our lives.  Nothing can keep us from God's love and salvation through His Son.  Praise to God for His closeness to us!

Don't worry, you are never separated from God!  Praise God!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for always being there for me, whether good, bad, or normal times of my life.  Help me to rely on You in all things.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Humbly Cast Away Anxiety

1/30/2015

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." -I Peter 5:7 (NIV)
In life we experience events that make us anxious.  Sometimes the events are linked to choices we have made and sometimes they are beyond our control.  In either case, we may try to handle these situations on our own, only to experience increased anxiety.

Each experience we have in life happens for a reason.  God allows us to make choices, but He is always by our side ready to help.  When choice and circumstance put us in stressful places, we can talk to God and place our worries and anxieties on Him.  He will help us through even the darkest times and when the time is right He will lift each of us up with His might hand!

Don't get anxious.  Give God your anxiety and allow Him to lift you up when the time is right!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for being by my side.  Help me to follow Your plan for my life.  Please take my anxiety and fear and allow me to be lifted up in Your name.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Rejoice and Pray

"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." -I Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NASB)
Have you ever wondered why you are where you are at?  Sometimes we might struggle finding a reason for what we experience or where we are at in our lives, whether it be our physical location, our professional status, our love and family lives, or our spiritual journey.  When we stop to think about where we are at, we need to remember that God has a plan for our lives.

Even if things have not worked out as we might have planned or thought they would, God is in control.  We have choices in life, but when we turn to God, He can use those choices to help us and those around us.  One choice we can make is to always rejoice in what we have and where God has placed us.  We should also remember to continually pray to God, including giving thanks for God's work in our lives.  After we open the lines of communication with God by rejoicing and praying, we then need to listen and follow His perfect plan for our lives!

Rejoice for where God has placed you, then pray for and listen to His guidance!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for the plans that You have for my life.  I rejoice in all that You provide for me and for where You have placed me.  Help me to hear Your plan for my life so that I may do good and help others.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Seeing Clearly

"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." -Matthew 7:3-5 (NASB)

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." -I John 1:9 (NASB)
Winter brings different challenges.  Snow can impact our ability to go out and about.  However, the combination of wind and snow in a blizzard can reduce visibility and add to the challenge of deepening snow.  When we think about heading out on the road, we need to be sure to see clearly in order to get where we are going safely.

When traveling through our spiritual lives, we need to be able to see, too.  Sometimes we think we can clearly see the faults of those around us.  Jesus warns us that when we are looking for the faults in others, we first need to look at ourselves.  Just like the blizzard keeps us from seeing clearly, our sins and pride can keep us from seeing ourselves clearly.  Instead of judging others, we need to remember to pray to God and ask Him to help remove the log from our eye.  Once we can see clearly, we can lovingly help others in His name.

See clearly by asking for God's forgiveness to take the log out of your own eye!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for your willingness to forgive me.  Please help me to accept Your forgiveness and to use the clear vision You give me to lovingly help others in Your name.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Blame it all on my roots!

"Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude." -Colossians 2:6-7 (NASB)
There are things in our lives that we can trace to our roots.  Our experiences and beliefs that shape and form us.  These experiences and beliefs help us to stand strong, survive, and produce good fruits.

Our fruits are the direct result of our roots.  When our roots are firm and surrounded by nutrients, we can grow strong and produce good fruit.  To do good and be strong, we should be rooted in Christ Jesus.  The Bible, God's Word, can provide nutrients.  We need to make sure that we are rooted firmly in God through accepting the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, and communicating with Him often.

Root yourself in Jesus and nourish your roots with God's word!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for providing a firm place for my roots and thank you for all of those that have helped me grow my roots in You.  Please help me to continue to be rooted in You.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Celebrate Grace!

"For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace." -Romans 6:14 (NIV)
There are times in our lives that make us feel like celebrating.  We celebrate to share accomplishments and milestones with family and friends.  We may celebrate gifts and good times. While we are celebrating our and sharing our accomplishments, we also need to remember to celebrate the life-changing gift of grace from God.

The greatest gift we have received and the biggest life-changing event is the grace of God in forgiving our sins and allowing us to live freely in grace.  God's grace isn't an accomplishment to earn, but it's still worthy of praise and celebration.  It's something that we should celebrate each and every day!  We should praise God for His grace and then it with all of our family and friends.

Celebrate the grace of God that frees us from sin!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for Your grace that allows me to be free from my sin.  All praise and glory to You!  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Live by the Spirit

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.  Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another." -Galatians 5:25-26 (NASB)
When we wake up each morning, we are presented with a brand new day waiting for us to live it.  The day is ready to be shaped by our words and actions.  We can choose to trudge through the day just trying to survive.  However, we can also choose to celebrate the day and live life in the Spirit!

When we choose to live and walk by the Spirit, we are beacons of our hope in God and His love!  We avoid the pitfalls that drag us down.  Instead of challenging one another, we bond together in a love that stretches beyond this world and into eternity.  Together in God's love we can help each other and make the days better for the many others we encounter!

When you wake up in the morning, talk to God and choose to live by the Spirit, spreading God's hope and love!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to walk with me each and every day.  Help me to find comfort in Your presence and to share Your love with others through all I say and do.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Stop and Listen!

"This is what the Lord says: 'Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.' But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'" -Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
There are times in life when we are faced with choices resulting from our behaviors or earlier choices.  Standing at the crossroads can be scary.  Moving on with the journey can be intimidating.  When we come to the crossroads, we should stop and call out to God to help us find the good path to take.

Once we have called out and asked for God's help, it is then up to us to follow the direction that He provides for us.  There are times when we ask God for guidance, but don't stop to hear His voice and follow His plan.  While our words may be asking for help, our actions may be saying, "We're not gonna take that path."  God can clear the path, but it is up to us to listen for and to His guiding voice!

When at the crossroads, call to God for help and be sure to stop and listen!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for hearing me when I call out to You.  Help me to stop, listen, and hear Your voice and plans for me so that I take the path You have cleared for me.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Right Way

"Every man's way is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts." -Proverbs 21:2 (NASB)

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'" -John 14:6 (NASB)
We've all met people who are determined to always be right.  We may have even been one of those people at some point in time!  We may debate about being right or doing things the best way, but when it comes to the important issues in life, there's only one right way!

No matter how right we think we are or others think they are, when it comes to living a good life and preparing for an eternal life, there is only one right way.  The only way to get closer to God and to the rewards of eternal life is through His Son, Jesus Christ.  We can think we are right.  We can argue over a variety of issues in life, but in the end all of our earthly debates will fade away.  We need to remember that there's only one right way to Heaven: salvation through Jesus Christ.

When it comes to the important issue of life and death, there's only one path to eternal life: Jesus Christ.

Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and sending Your Son to die for me so that I can have eternal life.  Help me to remember that in all things, there's only one right way to You, the path of salvation through Jesus Christ.  In His name I pray, amen.

Tough Love

"But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." -Luke 6:27-28 (NIV)
In our lives we encounter difficult people.  We may find ourselves in situations that challenge us to love and do good.  In these situations, we shouldn't give up.  No matter how tough it might seem, we should turn to love.

Sometimes we may find it difficult to deal with people that are our enemies or that hate us, but Jesus provides us and example to follow.  Even when we are treated unkindly, we need to respond with love.  We can show love by doing good and praying for those that mistreat us.  It's not always easy, but with practice we can begin to love even those that challenge us the most!

Practice tough love by doing good and praying for those that seem the most difficult!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me.  Help me to remember the example set by Jesus, so I can love and do good to all people, even those that seem difficult. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Recognition

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." -Matthew 6:33 NASB)
Some people actively seek recognition.  I sometimes see this in the behavior of my students seeking attention from their peers or from an adult at school.  Many of us also know adults that are driven by recognition in their families, churches, or professions.  Even if we receive recognition and reward on earth, the recognition is empty if it does not come from God.

Being recognized by family, friends, or peers can feel good, but overtime the feelings can fade.  The importance or value of our lives shouldn't be based on the recognition of others.  Our value should be through God and seeking His Kingdom and righteousness.  God knows what we need and He will recognize our efforts for His Kingdom.  Only when we are seeking Him will the recognition last!

Seek God's Kingdom and righteousness and He will give you recognition that lasts!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for being there for me, allowing me to seek You, Your Kingdom, and Your righteousness.  Help me to seek You and Your eternal recognition instead of the temporary recognition of earth.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Stay Strong

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." -James 1:12 (NASB)
Being strong can mean many different things.  There are times when we may need physical strength, mental strength, or spiritual strength.  We often think about training and being strong physically, but we shouldn't neglect the training required to be mentally and spiritually strong!

There are times when we must survive the pressures of life.  Surviving or persevering requires strength.  We can prepare ourselves by studying the Bible, talking to God, and learning to rely on Him in all things.  When we know God, we can rely on Him to help us stay strong.  He has promised us the reward of eternal life that He has prepared for us!

Stay strong by getting to know and relying on God so you can receive His gifts!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for being there for me.  Help me to know You better and to always rely on You so I can withstand any trial in my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Rise and Shine

"Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you." -Isaiah 60:1 (NASB)
Birds chirping in the morning.  The rays of sun streaming through the clouds.  A clear morning can give hope for a bright day filled with possibilities.  Even those days that begin with a gloomier start can hold possibilities.

Much like the song I remember from childhood, Isaiah reminds us to, "Rise and shine and give God the glory!"  Whether in winter when the mornings are darker or other times when the rain and clouds create an overcast start to the day, we can rise and shine.  The light that we need to fill our lives with hope is here!  Jesus has not only come to earth, He has died and been risen so that we can be forgiven.  Each day holds great possibilities for our lives because He is risen and shining.  We should rise and shine in Him!

Rise and shine because Jesus has risen for you!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for the new start each morning.  Help me to rise and shine each and every day as I reflect the love and forgiveness that Jesus has provided for me.  Through Jesus, the risen Savior, I pray amen.

Aim High

"Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." -Colossians 3:1-2 (NASB)
There is a saying that goes, "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you will land in the stars."  As we live our lives, we should shoot for the example that Jesus has set for us.  Even when we miss, God will be there to set us back on the right path.

This advice to aim high can be applied to our lives.  Our lives should be lived with our eye on God and Jesus.  We should try to model our lives after the example set by Jesus.  We should look up to them, forming our lives in their images, and we should practice their love here on earth.  With our minds set on things above, we can take the love of God and do good to expand God's Kingdom here on earth!

Aim high, keeping your mind on God and Jesus, and allowing God to use you for good here on earth!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for raising Jesus from the dead so I can have hope in all I do.  Help me to aim high and allow my efforts to be pleasing to You.  Use me to do good here on earth and to expand Your Kingdom for the benefit of everyone.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Last Words

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." -Proverbs 15:1 (NASB)

"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.  Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." -Ephesians 4:31-32 (NASB)
While teaching middle schoolers can be fun, there are can be challenging times, too.  Some of those challenging times involve dealing with behaviors and attitudes that come from students' in the midst of many changes.  When dealing with teens and pre-teens, many parents and teachers have to learn to deal with the need to get the "last word in."

Proverbs (15:1) reminds us that our response in a situation can impact the direction of the conversation.  Kind and gentle words can help quiet an angry voice and allow a reasonable conversation to proceed.  Paul reminds us in Ephesians (4:31-32) that bitterness and wrath should be put to the side so we can approach each other with forgiveness and love.  When we find ourselves facing someone intent on getting the last word, we can remember the advice from Proverbs and Paul.  We can approach the situation with love and gentle words in an effort to turn away anger and allow the last words to be loving and forgiving ones!

Stop anger by letting the last words be spoken in love and forgiveness!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for loving and forgiving me.  Help me to show love and forgiveness to others around me.  Help me to leave conversations with kind, loving, and forgiving words instead of words that stir up anger.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

People Loving People

"Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us." -I John 4:11-12 (NASB)
We may see evil on the news or in our lives.  It can be easy to become overwhelmed by all that needs to be "fixed" in the world around us.  Where do we begin when we are trying to overcome evil and solve the problems in the world around us?

One of my favorite musicians recently recorded a song called "People Loving People" about the power of using love to overcome evil.  The song speaks to the power of love in triumphing over evil.  The Bible also reminds us about the power of love.  God loves us.  He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die in our place.  When we know God's love and it's true power, we can share that love with the world and overcome the evil that is in the world.  We can be people loving people because God first loved each of us!

Be a person loving other people by sharing God's love!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your love for me.  Help me to take Your love and share it as a person loving other people and conquering evil.  Through Jesus, the expression of Your love for me, I pray, amen.

Be an Active Voice

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." -Proverbs 31:8 (NIV)

"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" -Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
In learning about qualitative research, one positive idea suggested by the authors of the textbook is that some researchers can use research to give a voice to underrepresented groups of people.  Researchers can use their studies to help a group of people.  We don't have to be researchers to give a voice to a group that is struggling.

Proverbs (31:8) reminds us that we are called to be a voice for those that don't have one.  We are to act with love for all those around us, advocating for their rights and well-being.  We are also called to move beyond a voice and to be people of action (Matthew 25:31-40).  We should be a voice for those that cannot speak for themselves, but we also need to take action and and help those around us that are less fortunate.  We can be advocates in God's love for the less fortunate around us!

Spread God's love by being an active voice for those who need it!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for caring for me.  Help me to be a voice for those less fortunate and give me the strength and resources to put the words into actions to spread Your love.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Wisdom and Understanding

"Who is wise and understanding among you?  Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.  But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth." -James 3:13-14 (NIV)
We are all blessed with different experiences, knowledge, and talents.  As we approach situations in our personal, professional, and church lives, we need to remember that we can help each other by sharing our wisdom.  God has given each of us our own experiences so we can help each other.

We should be willing to share our wisdom through good deeds - helpful gestures aimed at improving lives of others.  We should not share our wisdom as a means of bragging or showing off.  All true wisdom comes from God and we should give Him the glory.  We should take what God has given us and share it to help others without concern for selfish ambition.  Our wisdom and understanding should be shared for the glory of God and betterment of ourselves and everyone around us.

Show wisdom and understanding in your good life for the glory of God!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for the experiences, wisdom, and talents that You have given me.  Help me to be humble and to use these gifts to help others and bring glory to You.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Growth Spurt?

"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.'" -John 6:35 (NASB)
It's easy to tell when my daughter is going through a growth spurt. When she is growing, she is always hungry and asking for something to eat. As her parent, it is up to me to be sure she gets the right food to eat to help her grow.

As children of God, we go through spiritual growth spurts. When our spirits are hungry and looking to grow, God provides the food that they need. Jesus reminds us that He is the bread of life. When our souls are searching, He can satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst. He can give us the spiritually nutritious food and drink that can bring us closer to God, the Father, and Jesus, the Son!

When you experience a spiritual growth spurt, turn to Jesus to satisfy your hunger and quench your thirst!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for caring for me and providing for both my physical and spiritual needs. Please feed my soul so I can have spiritual growth spurts that bring me closer to You. Through Jesus, the bread of life, I pray, amen.

Learn and Reach Forward!

"Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." -Philippians 3:13-14 (NASB)
We make mistakes and we experience successes in life, but neither is a reason to stop trying to get better and do better in and with our lives.  We can live through our mistakes.  We can experience success, both big and small.  Either way, we shouldn't be satisfied with our accomplishments.  We should continually try to learn and do more for God!

Whether learning from mistakes or building on our successes, we cannot dwell in the past, but must keep working to be better and do more as part of God's Kingdom.  Paul reminds us in Philippians that we should forget what is behind us and move forward to reaching the goal of living life redeemed by Jesus.  We can learn lessons from our past, but we must continue moving forward in life.  We should strive to follow Paul's example, not dwelling on the success or failures of the past, but trying to live up to the life modeled by Jesus.  We don't have to go it alone.  God will help us, we just have to call on and rely on Him!

Don't dwell on the past - good or bad.  Try to be the best you for God right now and always!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for sending Your Son and other servants that show me how to live life.  Help me to follow these examples in order to be better, live better, and do more for Your Kingdom here on earth and for eternity.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

It Only Takes One!

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!" -Romans 5:17 (NIV)
The topic of winning the lottery came up in a recent conversation.  Even though the radio commercial stated that the odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 259 million, someone said that it only takes one ticket to win.  While it may only take one ticket to win the lottery jackpot, there is another ticket that guarantees a win for eternity!

When we look at the Bible, it took one person to introduce sin to mankind and one person to give the gift of redemption.  Luckily, we have that one person, Jesus Christ, as our winning ticket for salvation.  When we believe in Jesus, His sacrifice, and God's plan for our salvation, we can claim a jackpot much greater than the lottery.  We can claim forgiveness, redemption, and an eternal glory with God!

It only takes belief in The One Savior for an eternal jackpot with God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your Salvation and Your plan for my life.  Help me to hold tight to You and Your Son.  I know that You will be with me each step of the way.  Through Jesus, The One, I pray, amen.

Train and Pace Yourself

"For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.  Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary."
-Galatians 6:8-9 (NASB)
Beginning a new year can be like standing at the starting line of a marathon. The resolutions and plans for a productive year are fresh in our minds, but the journey is not a sprint. Marathoners must prepare with proper nutrition and training and then, on race day, maintain a pace that will keep them from tiring out too soon!

As we travel the journey of our lives, we need to prepare properly with spiritual nutrition and training. We need to watch what we sow, so we can reap benefits, including eternal life. After we are in the habit of making better choices in the Spirit, we need to maintain patience and a pace that will keep us from growing weary. God is with us and working through us, even if we don't see immediate results!

Train in the Spirit and pace yourself with patience!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for providing me with Your Word and Your promises. Help me to train in Your Holy Spirit so I am prepared for the marathon of life before me. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

With Love

"If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." -I Corinthians 13:2 (NASB)
God has given each of us gifts.  God's gifts include the talents and skills that He has given to each of us.  We can use our gifts to bring glory to God, but in all things we need to remember to use our gifts with love!

Whether in our daily routines or in our church lives, we should take hold of the gifts that God has given us and use them.  No matter what talents God has blessed us with, we can use our gifts.  We can use our talents to teach, heal, and serve.  We can create, build up, and keep people moving through their daily routines.  We can provide goods and services.  We can prophecy.  We can have faith to move mountains.  We can do all of these things, but they are all meaningless unless we work and serve each other with love.  God has shown us love.  We can show others God's love in all that we say and do!

Use the talents God has given you...with love!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for the love that You have shown to me.  Thank You for loving me so that I can love others.  Help me to use the talents that You have given me and help me to use them with love!  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Freely Given

"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?" -Romans 8:32 (NASB)
Someone recently mentioned that even though it is said that giving is better than receiving, it is nice to receive, too.  Throughout the many celebrations of Christmas, I have tried to teach my daughter to be both a cheerful giver and an appreciative receiver of gifts.  Through any giving and receiving, we shouldn't lose sight of the greatest gift that has been given to us: God's Son!

God gave to us the gift of redemption from all of our sin through the sacrifice of His Son.  God has freely given us the gift of salvation and eternal life with Him.  We should be grateful for God's gift and experience the joy of receiving His forgiveness and love.  We should also be cheerful givers and share God's freely given gift of salvation with others.  God's gift is one we can both receive and freely give!

Be an appreciative receiver of God's grace and mercy and be a cheerful giver as you share God's plan with others!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for all that You have given to me in my life.  Help me to appreciate all that I have been given, especially salvation through Your Son, and help me to share Your freely given gifts with others.  Through Jesus, my Savior, I pray, amen.

Wise World?

"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.  For it is written, 'He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness'; and again, "The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.'" -I Corinthians 3:19-20 (NASB)
Throughout our lives we search for wisdom.  Sometimes we look for wisdom in information and knowledge.  We try to know more by studying books or looking for information online.  We may learn about our world by exploring or by tuning in to a 24 hour news source.  Our attempts to gain wisdom through earthly means may be noble pursuits, but they are not complete.

No matter how wise it may seem, the world cannot offer us complete wisdom.  Our knowledge and wisdom can only be complete when we include God and His wisdom in our pursuits.  God knows everything.  We cannot access all of God's knowledge and wisdom on our own, but we can ask that God provide us with wisdom and knowledge.  When we include God in our search for wisdom, we can live as God wants us to live.  We can avoid traps and snares in our lives when we look to God and follow the wisdom He provides!

Don't blindly accept the world as wise, look to God for complete wisdom!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for Your willingness to share wisdom with me.  Please keep me from blindly accepting the knowledge of the world as "complete" wisdom.  Provide me with Your complete wisdom as I need it throughout my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
