Hard Pressed Calls

"When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; He brought me into a spacious place." -Psalm 118:5 (NIV)
There are times in life when we may feel trapped.  When we feel trapped, we have a choice to make.  We can learn to live under the pressure or we can look for a way out.  Making that choice or knowing when to change ourselves, to push for change in a certain situation, or to leave the situation can be difficult.  Fortunately, we can call on God to help us!

When we feel that we are hard pressed, we can call out to God.  God promises to hear us and help us.  God may give us guidance to change our own hearts.  He may show us how to push for change within the situation or He may show us a path to leave our current situation.  We need to be open to how God may lead us.  When we listen, we can be reassured that God will lead us from being hard pressed to being in a spacious place!

When you feel hard pressed, call out to God and follow His lead!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your promise to always be with me.  When I am hard pressed, help me to follow Your guidance.  Thank You for leading me to spacious places.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Thoughts, Words, and Ways

"'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,' declares the Lord.  'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.'" -Isaiah 55:8-11 (NASB)
Life is made up of series of interactions.  Our thoughts, words, and actions can impact the outcomes that we experience.  Often, the problems we experience are because our thoughts, words, and ways are not the same as God's!

All of God's words and ways have a purpose.  God gives us His Word and shows us His ways so that we can learn.  As we study God's Word and listen to His guidance in our lives, we can follow His plan.  As we follow His plan, we can begin to make our thoughts, words, and ways match His!

Listen to God and work to make your thoughts, words, and ways like His!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your Word and guidance.  Help me to make my thoughts, words, and actions like Yours.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Believe It or Not!

"But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.  But Peter got up and rant to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened." -Luke 24:11-12 (NASB)
The internet is full of stories that seem unbelievable.  Some unbelievable feats even appear to be captured on video.  While it may be hard to believe the pictures, stories, and videos that pop up on the computer, there is an amazing story that we must believe!

When a group of women arrived at Jesus' tomb days after His crucifixion, they found an empty tomb.  As the women shared their story, Jesus' disciples found the story to be unbelievable!  The story sounded like nonsense to those that listened.  Peter ran to the tomb and witnessed what the women had told him.  The story was true!  Jesus is risen and alive!  The tomb is empty!

Believe the amazing story of Jesus!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for the gifts of Your Son and Salvation through Him.  Help me to live so others can believe His story of love, forgiveness, and eternal life.  Through Him I pray, amen.

Will

"And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, 'Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.' Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him." -Luke 22:41-43 (NASB)
In life there are choices.  Sometimes the choices we have to make are not easy choices or the choices we want to make.  We may spend time wrestling with the choices we have to make.  We may seek the advice of others before making decisions.  In the end, the only advice we need to seek is God's will!

Jesus demonstrates what we should do when facing challenges and difficult choices or decisions.  We can surround ourselves with friends and family, but we also need to take time to be alone with God.  As we spend time with God, we can talk to Him, but we also need to listen to His will.  As we seek and follow His will, we can be certain that He will strengthen us and lead us to glory in Him!

Let go of your will to seek and follow His will!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for creating me in Your image.  Help me to let go of my will so I can seek You and Your will in my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Risen Light

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" -John 8:12 (NIV)
We have many choices in life.  Some choices have small consequences, while others have life-changing impacts.  As we celebrate Easter, we become especially aware of the meaning of Jesus' death and resurrection and what it means for our lives!

In our lives, we have a choice of who or what to follow.  Jesus reminds us that He is the light of the world.  Jesus is risen from the dead!  He is the One that has overcome the darkness of the world and has conquered death.  We can only find our way out of darkness by following Him.  While Good Friday may remind us of the darkness of our sin, Easter Sunday should bring the joy and celebration of a risen light that shines for eternity!

Follow the risen light to overcome darkness for all of eternity!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for the gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of Your Son.  Help me to follow and to share the risen light of the world that is Jesus Christ.  Through Him I pray, amen.

In Your Corner

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." -Hebrews 4:15
I admit that I am a fan of the Rocky movies.  In the latest movie, Rocky becomes the mentor and trainer for a young boxer that has faced challenges throughout his life.  The young boxer is fortunate to have the wisdom and experience of Rocky in his corner.  Watching the movie may remind you that it is important who you have in your corner!

It is important who we have in our corner!  God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth so that we can be confident in who is in our corner.  Jesus came to show us that God understands our humanity, to serve as an example for us, and to offer us Salvation.  Once we believe in Jesus and have faith in Him, we can be assured that Jesus is in our corner and it can't get better than that!

Jesus knows your humanity and is in your corner!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and sending Your Son to save me from my sin.  Allow my life to help others know that Jesus is waiting to be in their corner, too.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Sacrifice and Giving

"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.  Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." -Philippians 2:5-8 (NASB)
There are times or situations in our lives that may require us to sacrifice or give of ourselves.  It may require giving our time, our talents, or even more.  We may feel limitations on how much we are able or willing to give.  When we think about the earthly life of Jesus, we are reminded of true sacrifice and giving!

When we think about our willingness to sacrifice and give, we should consider the attitude of Jesus.  Jesus was willing to become human.  He endured the heartache and temptation that comes with being human.  He demonstrated love, compassion, and caring.  Above all, He willingly accepted the sin of the world, even though He was blameless.  God may ask us to give of ourselves or sacrifice.  When He calls on us, we need to remember the sacrifices that have been made for us!

Strive to have the attitude of Jesus and be willing to sacrifice and give for God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for sending Your Son and for His sacrifice for me.  Help me to live each day with an attitude of sacrifice and giving like Jesus demonstrated.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

At Hand and Unshaken

"I keep my eyes always on the Lord.  With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken." -Psalm 16:8 (NIV)
When walking with my daughter, it is natural to hold her hand to protect her from danger, such as crossing the street or walking down a rocky or slick hill on a trail.  While she understands why, she sometimes wants to resist and try things on her own.  Even when it is time for her to try on her own, I am there to support and continue to teach her.

In life, God is always at our side, ready to help and ready to keep us from being shaken.  We need to keep our eyes, minds, and hearts on Him and His plan for our lives.  We can hold His hand.  If we think we can try on our own, He is there to support and teach us.  Even though my daughter will eventually grow up and be able to do many things on her own, we will never outgrow the need for God's love, forgiveness, and guidance in our lives.  The good news is that God never leaves us or gives up on us!

God is at hand and ready to keep you from being shaken!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for always being by my side.  Please guide me and keep me safe, even when I think I can do it on my own.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Don't Worry, Be Happy!

3/23/2016

"So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own." -Matthew 6:34 (NASB)
I remember a song growing up that reminded listeners to, "Don't worry, be happy!"  It's good advice, but may often seem easier said than done.  Life may bring stress and stress may bring worry, but in the end, we should find the source of happiness without worry!

Jesus reminds us that worry is useless.  Worry cannot change tomorrow.  Worry cannot add more time to our lives.  Worry cannot make us happier, safer, or healthier.  When we feel ourselves slipping into worry, we can stop ourselves.  Instead of worry, we can search for God's presence and guidance in each situation.  In the end, we can be reassured that God is with us, caring for us, and loving us.  We don't have to worry, because He will comfort and provide for each of us!

Don't worry, find trust and happiness in God's comfort and guidance!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for always being with me and for providing for me.  Help me to stop worrying and to trust in Your plan for my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

In and Out

"He went on: 'What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.'” -Mark 7:20-23 (NIV)
A lot of people talk about "karma" or "what goes around comes around!"  We can get caught up in doing what is right because of what we fear will come around.  We need to focus not only on what comes out, but on what we put into our bodies, hearts, and souls.

We need to protect ourselves by putting good things into our bodies and our hearts.  We can be sure we are putting good things into our bodies by surrounding ourselves with positive influences.  We can read the Bible.  We can worship with fellow believers.  We can pray and talk to God.  When we fill our hearts with these kinds of things, then our hearts will be filled with God's love, compassion, and kindness.  If our hearts are filled with His love, then we can show this love through our words and actions!

Put good things in your heart so good things will come out through your words and actions!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for being a constant source of good in my life.  Help my heart to be filled with good so my words and actions are filled with Your goodness.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

"Be of somber spirit, be on the alert.  Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are the world." -I Peter 5:8-9 (NASB)
The saying goes that misery loves company.  When we're facing difficult or unpleasant situations, we usually feel better if we have others there with us.  In life, we all face temptations and obstacles placed in our way by the devil.  They may not all be exactly alike, but there are others facing similar things!

Because the devil is sneaking around and challenging us, we need to be prepared.  We can stand up to him!  We have our faith in God to guide and protect us.  We can also be encouraged by the triumphs of those around us.  Whether we read of triumphs from our ancestors in the Bible or hear the accomplishments of present day brothers and sisters in Christ, we can hear the stories that support our faith and inspire us to press forward in the name of God, the Father, and Jesus Christ, His Son!

Keep pressing onward against the devil with inspiration from fellow believers and guidance from faith in God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your guidance and for the stories of others that have overcome the ways of the devil to reach victory in You.  Please help me to listen to You and to the inspiration of others that You provide to me so that I, too, can be victorious over the devil.  Through Jesus, the Victor, I pray, amen.

Finished for You!

"Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished!' And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit." -John 19:30 (NASB)
Whenever we think about our lives, we may need to reflect on what it means to be a sinner.  We know that we all sin and do not reach the glory of God on our own, but do we understand the severity of sin?  Throughout the Lenten and Easter season the magnitude of Jesus' sacrifice may be at the forefront of our minds and our worship, but we need to remember the Easter feeling all year long!

Jesus did more than just die on the cross for our sin.  When He finished the sacrifice of His earthly body on the cross, He took ALL of our sin on Himself.  God placed Jesus on earth and allowed Him to endure the weight of the sin of all generations.  Jesus, one man and part of God, was able to clear a way for us to get to Heaven.  Without Jesus, the world would be lost without hope.  Even in the darkest times on earth, even in our own darkest times of sin, we have the hope of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection.  He finished clearing the way for us, we just have to choose to commit to Him and follow Him!

Commit your life to Jesus and follow the path to Salvation that He finished through His death and resurrection!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for sending Your Son to die for my sin.  Please forgive me and help me to always stay on the path that Jesus provides to me.  Through Jesus, my risen Savior, I pray, amen.

Delivered & Praising

"My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you — I whom you have delivered." -Psalm 71:23 (NIV)
As we live and move through each day, there are many times that God delivers us.  We may not always recognize God's guiding hand in our lives, but that doesn't mean that it isn't there.  We may need to slow down and reflect to become more aware of God in our lives and how He has delivered us through each day.

When we awake each day and when we go to sleep, we should thank God for delivering us from all that we face in the world.  We can thank Him for delivering us from physical dangers.  We can be grateful for His comfort during emotional trials.  We can stand in awe of His plan for our spiritual redemption.  Each day we should take time to reflect on how God has delivered us and blessed us.  In return, we should shout for joy in praise to Him for all that He does for each of us!

Praise God for delivering and blessing you each day!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your presence in my life.  Help me to always acknowledge You and to shout Your praises for delivering and blessing me!  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Doing Good & Pursuing Peace!

"Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.  Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." -Psalm 34:14-15 (NASB)
When we get frustrated it can be easy to talk.  We may talk about our situations or about people that frustrate us.  It can be okay to "vent" a little bit, but we should remember the advice to keep our tongue from evil and to move toward good!

When we find ourselves in frustrating situations, we can turn to God and to move us away from evil.  We should try to promote God's love and peace.  We don't need to blindly accept everything the world tells us, but we should respond in ways that show God's grace and not the devil's desire.  Whenever we focus on doing good, not saying deceitful things, and seeking peace, we will move away from evils.  As we move toward God, we can feel less of our frustrations!

Move away from worldly frustrations and toward God by doing good and pursuing His peace!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace.  Please help me to always seek Your peace and to move away from my frustrations.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Boast About Him!

"But he who boasts is to boast in the Lord.  For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends." -II Corinthians 10:17-18 (NASB)
There are times in our lives when we accomplish things that make us proud.  There are also times when our loved ones accomplish things that make us proud.  It is natural to feel pride, but we must be careful of how we react.

We may feel the urge to boast about "our" accomplishments.  When we boast about ourselves, we are taking credit away from God.  God has blessed us with talents and opportunities that allow us to many things.  In all things, whether small or large accomplishments, we shouldn't boast about ourselves, but we should boast about all that God has blessed us with!

When you feel the urge to boast, boast about God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for all of the blessings in my life and for all that I have and will accomplish.  Help me to remember to always give You the credit for these talents, opportunities, and blessings.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Faith and Healing

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." -Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Sometimes it is unavoidable.  We may try to be healthy, to wash our hands, and to avoid germs, but sometimes we get sick.  Even though getting sick may be unavoidable, we trust the advice of our doctors and the abilities of our bodies to heal.  We may not see the medications or our bodies working to fight illness and disease, but we have confidence that we will get better!

Sometimes our souls need healing as well.  When we feel defeated or like we do not know where to turn, we can have confidence in the power of God.  We may not "see" God, but we know He is by our side.  As long as we have faith in Him, we can be confident and reassured that our souls will be restored in Him.  We may not physically see God, but we can feel Him working in each of us to give us confidence in what we hope for and assurance in things not seen!

Have faith in God and be hopeful and confident that you will be healed and restored!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your love and support.  Help me to be restored and to maintain hope and confidence through You.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Move On & Rejoice!

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" -Philippians 4:4 (NIV)
I recently saw a quote that read, "If you run after your destiny you automatically distance yourself from your past."  Sometimes we get caught up in the past and don't see the present or the future.  We may become so involved in "fixing" what has already happened that we don't take the time to rejoice for the blessings we have been given!

God promises to always be with us.  He wants what is best for each of us.  God wants to take us from a past of sin and darkness to a future of light and glory.  Through believing in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, accepting forgiveness, and committing our lives to God, we have a destiny that is far from our past.  We can move on and run after the destiny of eternal glory with God.  For that blessing and many others, we should always take time to rejoice and praise God!

Move on from a sinful past with the hope found in Jesus Christ, then rejoice!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for saving me through Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Help me to run from my past sins and toward Your eternal glory!  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Darkness & Light

"But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.  For this reason it says, 'Awake, sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.'" -Ephesians 5:13-14 (NASB)
When I used to live in a house on a nature preserve.  I remember taking my dog for walks through the forest at night.  It always amazed me how much different a place can look when light is either added or taken away.  The same trees, the same path, but a different look and feel!  When thinking about our spiritual travels, we also must consider the light and darkness on our journeys.

As we travel through life, we will experience times that are challenging or maybe even scary!  When we experience trials in our life, we can let the darkness creep in.  The darkness may hide the love, the goodness, or the lesson that is in the experience.  Without seeing the good, we can slip further into the darkness.  However, if we add light to the situation, then we can see the good in the experience and find our way out of what could become a darker situation.  When we begin to see or feel darkness creeping in, we know that Jesus is our light!  He can shine in our lives and make everything visible!  We just have to call on Him and then wait for Him to wake us and guide us with His light!

Trust in Jesus to overcome the darkness with His light!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for being my light.  Help me to always search for Your light, even when the situation may seem the darkest.  In Jesus, my Light and my Redeemer, I pray, amen.

Work in Progress

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." -Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
My family and I volunteer at a local nature center and environmental education organization.  The work is worthwhile and can be rewarding.  However, the organization, exhibits, and programs are all works in progress.  Part of the fun and the challenge is helping the organization grow, adapt, and change in ways that will help guide it well into the future.  In our lives, we are works in progress, too.  We need to be prepared for changes, growth, and guidance for our eternal futures!

When we think about how we need to change and grow, we should remember that God has a plan for each of our lives.  No matter what choices we make, He can use our circumstances for His good.  As we consider where to go next, which direction to turn, or what we want, we need to talk to God and listen to His reply.  We need to let go and allow God to form our lives, guide our lives, and move us toward Him and His perfection!  It is only through being a work in progress of God and His Son, Jesus Christ, that we can reach our Heavenly, eternal destination!

Allow yourself to be molded by God as His work in progress!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for never giving up on me and for continuing to work on me for Your glory.  Help me to always talk and then listen to You for guidance in my life.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Future Stories

"'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'" -Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB)
I recently read a book that discussed helping students to see their "future stories."  The author explained that students need to recognize the pathway from where they are to the future they want.  As we think about our life and our spiritual journey, we need to do more than think about our future, we need to talk to God about our future!

God loves us and wants what is best for each and every one of us.  Even though we may have plans for our lives, we need to talk to and listen to God's direction.  God wants what is best for us, but we have to listen to Him!  Life is not always easy, but God promises to love us and protect us.  As we think about our future stories, we need to be sure God is the center of each of our lives and our stories!

Talk to God about His plans for your future story!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for having a plan for my life.  Help me to listen to Your plan and to follow Your guidance.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

"The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him." -Romans 8:16-17 (NASB)
There are many products that promise to be on your side.  They can help you get the body you want, the car or house you want, or all of the so-called "good things" in life.  Even though the spokespeople may claim to be on your side, there is only one true guarantee in life!

In our spiritual journey, we have the Holy Spirit by our side!  Once we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit can testify on our behalf that we are children of God.  As children of God, we are heirs to God's glory.  Life may not always be easy, but we can be assured that we are part of God's family and God's glory awaits!

Throughout life, you only need the guarantee of God by your side!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for being by my side.  Help me to study Your Word, listen to the Holy Spirit, and allow You to guide my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Hurry Up!

"I sought Your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your word.  I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies.  I hastened and did not delay to keep Your commandments." -Psalms 119:58-60 (NASB)
Hurry up!  Sometimes that seems to be all we hear or all that we tell ourselves.  There always seems to be more that needs to be done.  We can't let ourselves slow down or fall behind.  Even though we may be hurrying to accomplish goals for our careers and families, we cannot neglect what should be our foremost focus: God!

We should always be focused on or "in a hurry" to search for God's will and seek His favor.  As the Psalmist reminds us, we should hasten to follow God's commandments.  If we seek God first in our lives, then He can bless our efforts and allow our "hurry ups" to meet His goals for our lives.  In His time we will see His rewards.  We can always be secure knowing that we are protected as part of His inner circle!

Hurry up and seek God's favor and will for your life!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for Your love and never-ending support.  In the midst of "hurrying" help me to always seek You first and follow Your will for my life.  In Jesus I pray, amen.

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." -Genesis 1:27 (NIV)
Many of us look in the mirror each day.  We may look at ourselves as we get dressed and ready for our day.  We may look at ourselves to track the progress of our exercise program.  As we look at the image reflected back to us, we can think about our Creator and about the image we project to the rest of the world!

God created each of us in His image.  In all of God's creation, we are special.  As we approach others, we should remember that they, too, are created in God's image, even if they do not realize it yet.  Knowing that we are created in God's image, we should try to show others the loving, caring, and compassion that make up God.  By living in His love, we can show others an image of what God truly is and does!

Live so others can know a true image of God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for creating me in Your image.  Help my words and actions to reflect Your love so that others can see a true image of Your grace and power.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

Agitation, Sighing, and Relief

"I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart.  Lord, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You." -Psalms 38:8-9 (NASB)
Sometimes work, or life in general, can be frustrating.  We may run up against times when others seem to be undoing our work.  We may feel tired, defeated, or crushed.  We may get agitated and angry.  When we begin to feel these ways, we can sigh and feel like throwing up our arms and walking away, but should we?

Giving up and walking away may be necessary at times, but it is not really going to solve the problem.  When we are defeated, crushed, or agitated, God can hear our sighs.  More than sighing, we should call out to God.  He already sees our desires spread out in our hearts before Him, but by calling on Him and asking for His guiding wisdom, we can prepare our hearts to listen to His reply.  As we listen, we can be comforted and find our relief in His plan for our lives...agitation and all!

When you are sighing in frustration, call on God and listen to His plan!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for always being by my side.  When I am frustrated and feel like walking away, help me to remember to call on You and listen to Your plan for my life.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.

"Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." -Hebrews 7:25 (NASB)
There are times in our lives when we may try to do too much on our own.  Sometimes this happens because we don't think we can rely on others to help us get the job done.  Some things we may be able to do on our own, but we cannot save ourselves on our own!

In our lives, there is only one way to be saved.  We need someone on our side and that someone is Jesus Christ, God's Son!  We can become closer to God through belief and trust in Jesus.  We can be redeemed through forgiveness offered to us by the sacrifice of Jesus for our sin.  When we want to get the job of saving ourselves done, we need to turn to and rely on Jesus.  He's the one that is alive and always willing to intercede for each and every one of us!

Get saved through faith in Jesus and allowing Him to intercede for you!

Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for giving me Your Son so that I can be saved.  Help me to always rely on Jesus.  Through Him I pray, amen.
