My middle school students learn that Sir Isaac Newton developed three laws of motion. The third of Newton's laws states that for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. While this holds true for physics, it doesn't always hold for our emotional reactions.
Often we may find it easy to react to rude behavior with rude behaviors of our own. We are called to do more than return the actions of those around us. Much like Newton's Third Law, I Thessalonians reminds us that when someone wrongs us, we shouldn't react with a wrong response. Instead, we should react with the love and goodness that God has shown to us. We should react to the wrong just as strongly, but in the opposite direction with goodness and love!
When facing wrong, react with good that is equally strong!
Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for showing me Your love. Help me to react in Your loving way no matter what I am facing. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
