Denial and Reward

12/1/2015

"And He was saying to them all, 'If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.'" -Luke 9:23 (NASB)
It can be hard to say, "No!"  Saying no can be even more difficult when we need to tell ourselves no.  There are many earthly pressures to say, "Yes!"  Whether it is to more stuff, more to do, more to have, or just more to want, there always seems to be something else.  When the world is pushing us to want more, we need to remember that Jesus provides all that we need!

Sometimes we have to deny our earthly selves.  We may have to say no to our earthly wants and desires.  We may have to deny ourselves things that will only give us short-term satisfaction.  When we deny ourselves earthly things, we need to focus on Heavenly things!  We need to pick up our cross each day and choose to follow Jesus.  We need to study God's Word, learn from Him, talk with Him, and learn how we are to walk in His ways.  It may be hard to say no to ourselves and to deny ourselves, but the rewards in Heaven will be greater and longer-lasting than anything we may say yes to on earth!

Be willing to deny yourself short-term satisfaction for eternal, Heavenly rewards!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for reminding me to pick up my cross each and every day.  Help me to always talk to, listen to, and learn from You so that I can follow Your ways for my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
