Drop Your Net

"Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon  who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother; casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.  And He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.' Immediately they left their nets and followed Him." -Matthew 4:18-20 (NASB)
Life is busy.  Work.  Family.  Taking care of the house.  Running errands.  There's so much to do that time seems to always be at a premium.  So the question we are faced with is this: If we were called to drop our nets and follow, would we?  If God asked you to drop everything in order to answer His call to further His kingdom, would you stop and follow Him for the sake of others?

There are times when we are called by God.  We need to be open to hear His call.  We shouldn't neglect our responsibilities, but we also shouldn't be too wrapped up in ourselves and our activities that we either miss the call or ignore the call.

When Jesus saw Simon Peter and Andrew, He said "follow Me" and they did!  The Bible says that the men immediately dropped their net and followed Jesus.  They didn't ask questions.  They didn't second guess their abilities.  They trusted Jesus and followed Him, for the sake of helping others by fishing for men!

Simon Peter and Andrew followed Jesus and, because of their willingness to follow, they were witnesses to world-changing events that have impacted all of time.  They learned and they grew.  Jesus is calling us to be fishers of men, too!  He will strengthen us and allow us to further His kingdom.

As you are working (and living), don't forget to listen for the call.  When you are called, be willing and trusting enough to drop your "net" and follow God's lead.  You won't regret it!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for being willing to fish for me.  Please equip me to be a "fisher of men" for You.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
