For Our Good

"Keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn." -I Kings 2:3 (NASB)

There are times when my middle school students don't understand the value of the rules in place at school.  They often think they are capable of acting appropriately without the guidance of rules or adult influence.  Adults know that the rules are in place to keep order and protect everyone.  The same is true for the rules provided to us by God!

David reminded Solomon of the commandments, laws, and testimonies of God.  Even though we may be far removed from the time of David and Solomon, these laws are still important.  God provides them as structure and guidance for our lives.  God gives them to help us live in love, peace, and respect.  We shouldn't rebel against the rules of God, but we should learn them and understand their importance in bringing us closer to God and in allowing us to live successful lives.

God's rules are for your good, so learn and follow them!

Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for giving me rules and structure for my life.  Help me to know Your laws, Your plan for my life, and the path You have for me to travel.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
