I recently enjoyed being part of a professional development experience that began with a quote about community and being supportive of other members in the community. Throughout the two and a half days immersed in this development community, I didn't hear a discouraging word or see someone neglect the needs of another or become impatient with another. That community of learners was an example of the advice from Paul to the church in Thessalonica (I Thessalonians 5:14).
We are called by God to love our neighbor and to help each other, especially those in need. We should offer support to each other instead of engaging in gossip and talking behind others' backs. We should hold each other accountable in a loving way. We should offer encouragement to each other, especially when we are struggling. When we see someone is weak, we should work to make each other strong. When someone doesn't understand or moves at a different speed than we do, we must be patient. As we work together in love and encouragement, we can build a strong community for God.
Be a positive influence for God. Come together with others as a supportive, loving, and encouraging community, then together you can accomplish great things for the Kingdom of God!
Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for the experience of a supportive and loving community. Help me to be an influence of Your love and light in my community. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
