Hold His hand!

"For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, 'Do not fear.  I will help you.'" -Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)
Holding a child's hand is a way that we keep him or her safe.  When the potential for danger exists, we ask our children to hold our hand.  Often, the child may not see the possibility of danger that might exist.  As someone responsible for the well-being of a child, we must assure the child that we will keep him or her safe.

God, our Heavenly Father, wants to hold our hand and help us through all of the situations that we face in our lives.  God wants to keep us safe.  God tells us in the Bible that He will hold our hand and that we should not fear.  God wants us to be safe and to prosper!

However, much like a young child sometimes tries to pull away from the hand that is protecting him or her, we sometimes try and pull away from God's hand.  Sometimes we think we can accomplish things on our own.  Sometimes we get distracted by the busyness of our lives and drift away from God.  Whatever the reason, we need to remember that the safest place is holding God's hand and walking with Him!

When doubt creeps in or we begin to wander away from God, we can ask God to take our hand and lead us.  As the hymnist Thomas Dorsey stated:
          "Precious Lord, take my hand
          Lead me on,
          Let me stand
I'm tired, I am weak I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home."

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for being there to walk with me, to hold my hand, and to take away my fear.  Please help me to hold Your hand and not pull away.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
