Hometown

"And they took offense at Him.  But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.' And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief." -Matthew 13:57-58 (NASB)
A hometown can mean different things to each of us.  A hometown can be that welcoming place filled with memories or sense of belonging and community.  A small hometown can also be a place that seems to smother us with too much attention.  Either way, our hometown usually helps define who we are as we grow and develop.

For Jesus, his hometown was not a welcoming place.  Not only did they not listen, they took offense at what He was saying.  Because of their disbelief, Jesus did not do many miracles in His hometown.  Maybe they didn't understand how the little boy they watched grow up could end up truly being the Son of God or how such "fame" could sprout from their town.

As we continue to worship Jesus today, we must beware not to exclude Him from His "hometown" in the church.  He is still alive with us.  He can still perform miracles.  We need to believe and be sure that He is honored and respected in His church!

Honor Jesus in the "hometown" of His church and throughout the world!

Prayer:
Dear God-

Thank You for sending Jesus to show me how to live, how to love, and how to be of service to others.  Please help me to always honor Him and honor You with my thoughts, words, and actions.  Through Jesus I pray, amen.
