January 1st marks the anniversary of the tragic death of Roberto Clemente. Roberto Clemente was a great baseball player, but, more importantly, he was a humanitarian. Roberto Clemente is remembered by many not only as a gifted athlete, but also as a man that had a love for and was genuinely concerned with the well-being of others. As we remember individuals such as Roberto Clemente, we can ask ourselves, "How do I want to be known?"
While we may have an image or idea about how we want to be known, Jesus reminds us that we are known by our fruit. We cannot expect to be figs or grapes if our actions remind people of thorns and briars! Our words and actions determine our fruit. In order to be good and do good, our hearts must be filled with goodness and love. We can fill our hearts with goodness and love through a close relationship with God, our loving creator. As we move closer to God and His will for our lives, we can be filled with goodness that will produce the sweet fruits of love and compassion for those around us!
If you want to be remembered as producing good, loving fruit, then fill your heart with the goodness and love of God!

Dear God-
Thank You for Your goodness and love that fills my heart. Please help Your love to overflow from my heart and produce goodness and fruit for all those I meet. Through Jesus I pray, amen.
