Man-made gods

"O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of distress, to You the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, 'Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, futility and things of no profit.' Can man make gods for himself? Yet they are not gods!" -Jeremiah 16:19-20 (NASB)
Sometimes we become devoted to causes that are near and dear to us.  Sometimes we get distracted by things we want or think we need.  It is good to serve others and the greater good by giving of our time and talents and there are things we need to survive.  As we are devoting our resources to a cause or getting what we "need", we need to be aware of what or who we are serving.  We shouldn't look to these causes or look at these things as gods, because there is only one true, powerful God!

We can make gods for ourselves, but eventually each of these gods will crumble and fail.  When that happens, we may find ourselves staring at the remains of man-made gods wondering what went wrong.  All the while, there is only one true and powerful God who loves us and is ready to forgive us.  We can't make Him. He has existed since before the beginning of time and He will continue to exist beyond the end of time.  This is the God that is with us to all ends of the earth and deserves our devotion and worship!

Join those coming from all ends of the earth to worship the one, true God!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for revealing Yourself to us and for sending Your Son so that we can have a relationship with You.  Help me to always remember that You are the one true God and it is only through You that I can truly serve others.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
