Mix it up!

"Then the Lord said, 'Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote. Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.'" -Isaiah 29:13-14 (NASB)
For the most part, humans are creatures of habit.  We like routines and expected outcomes in our lives.  However, we can also be annoyed when we get stuck in a rut.  Our relationship with God, whether our worship, praise, or prayer, can sometimes get stuck in a rut.  Our approach becomes memorized, rote, and almost meaningless.

The Bible warns us that we should beware of honoring God through lip service while our hearts become detached from the meaning of our worship, praise, and prayer.  If you find yourself physically present in worship, but absent mentally, or mindlessly reciting the Lord's Prayer or your own prayers, stop and take inventory of your heart.  Maybe it is time to mix things up and change your approach to building your relationship with God!

God wants a close, personal relationship with each of us.  We can approach a relationship with God in many different ways, but God needs to be the center of our hearts.  If you find your heart drifting, renew your commitment to God.  Find ways to express this commitment to and love for God.  Your expressions of worship, praise, and prayer to God can be as unique as God has made you!

Get yourself out of the rut and into God's loving presence.  God made you unique, build your relationship with God...even if you have to mix things up to keep it fresh!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and wanting to have a personal relationship with me.  Please help me to feel Your presence in my heart and keep my heart from drifting away from You.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
