People Talk, God Acts!

"The righteous is delivered from trouble, but the wicked takes his place.  With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous will be delivered." -Proverbs 11:8-9 (NASB)
People will talk.  Sometimes in talking the truth can be forgotten or distorted.  Even though we sometimes think that words can't hurt us, this isn't always true.  As I plan for lessons for my middle school students, I found an example to show them that choosing their words matter.  The activity involves a tube of toothpaste.  Students are asked to squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube.  After the toothpaste has been squeezed out, students are asked to put the toothpaste back in the tube.  Students are reminded that much like we can't easily put the toothpaste back in the tube, it is difficult for us to take back our words.

Many of us could probably give examples of hurtful words that we remember and keep with us.  Even though these words may have been intended to trip us up or tear us down, we can be protected.  We need to remember that even though hurtful words may have been spoken and may have been targeted at destroying us, we can escape them.  By turning to God, we can be protected from the words others speak.  God will act on our behalf.  In God we can find a love that is greater than words spoken against us and a power that can overcome the words and anything else the world may throw at us!

People talk and words can hurt, but God acts and can protect!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and being willing to protect me and help me escape words that are meant to destroy me.  Please continue to strengthen me and guide me, no matter what I might face in life.  Through Jesus I pray, amen!
