Popeye & Spinach

"The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds.  The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.  He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them." -Psalm 145:17-19 (NASB)
When I was young, there was a game my sister and I would play with my grandfather.  He would sit in his chair and "capture" one or both of us with his legs.  We would struggle to get out until I, being a Popeye fan, would eat my (pretend) spinach and gain the strength to break free.  We had fun playing together and I still enjoy Popeye cartoons, but there is a different strength that I rely on as I have matured.

We are reminded in the Psalm (145:17-19) that God is kind.  He is near to us and waiting for us to call on Him.  Instead of reaching for a can of pretend spinach, we can all call on the real and living God to help us break free from whatever is capturing us.  When we believe in and worship God, our requests should be in line with His will and He will save us.  We don't need to struggle for our "spinach", we need to be freed from our struggles with God!

Instead reaching for sources of worldly strength, you can reach for the living and all-powerful God!

Prayer:

Dear God-
Thank You for loving me and for staying near to me.  Help me to remember that You are nearby and ready to help as long as I call on You and trust Your will in my life.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
