Storms

"A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.  Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.  The disciples woke him and said to him, 'Teacher, don't you care if we drown?'
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." -Mark 4:37-39
Jesus was traveling by boat with His disciples when a storm erupted on the sea and threatened the boat.  Jesus was asleep, but His disciples woke Him.  Jesus spoke and calmed the storm.  While the disciples faced an actual storm in this reading, we may face different kinds of storms in our lives.  Jesus is there to calm whatever storm we face!

Sometimes when we are facing a storm, we feel that Jesus is "sleeping" or not paying attention to our needs.  Jesus cares for us and is always there, but sometimes in the midst of the storm we are still trying to control the outcome on our own!  When we feel that Jesus has forgotten us or doesn't care, we need to stop trying to control the storm and ask Jesus to help us calm the storm and make it through to the other side.

Once we have called on Jesus, we must fully trust in His power, wisdom, and grace.  Jesus knows exactly what each of us needs to weather whatever storm we are facing.  The challenges, heartaches, and triumphs will all work perfectly in His plan for our lives.  The winds and waves of the storms we face will be quelled by the words of Jesus.

When you are up against a storm of any type remember to call on Jesus.  After you have called on Him, trust in His power to deliver you safely!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for caring for me both in times of calm and in times of turmoil.  Please guide me safely through any storm I face.  Help me to rely on Your power, wisdom, and grace in all things.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
