The Golden Rule

"Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.  If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners love those who love them.  If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners do the same.  If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you?  Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.  But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." -Luke 6:31-35 (NASB)
We've all heard it before.  Some may have heard it from a teacher.  Maybe some have heard it from a parent or grandparent.  The "Golden Rule" tells us to treat others the same way that we want to be treated.  We may have heard it before, but do we remember to practice it?

Jesus gives us the "Golden Rule" and tells us in the book of Luke (6:31-35) that it is easy to love those that love us.  Jesus also tells us that we need to treat our enemies the way we want to be treated!  Jesus gives us this reminder because he knows that we often need to focus on how we treat the people that don't love us or don't treat us well.  We need to remember that we are to love everyone and treat everyone with respect, regardless of what they do to us.

When you encounter a friend, a stranger, or "enemy", treat all of them the way that you want to be treated.  If you struggle with treating someone the way you want to be treated, ask God for guidance and assistance.  Pray for yourself and the other person, then let God do the rest!

Don't just remember the "Golden Rule", remember to practice it with everyone you meet!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for loving me no matter what I do.  Please help me to not only treat everyone the way I want to be treated, even if I am not shown the same treatment.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
