Watch your Tongue

"For, 'Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.  They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.'" -I Peter 3:10-11 (NIV)
The saying is that talk is cheap.  That's because our words can come out so easily, with so little thought and effort.  We also hear that the pen is mightier than the sword, which reminds us that our words can be damaging, too. Our words come easily and cheaply and they can cause damage worse than a sword, it's no wonder that the Bible warns us to keep our tongue from evil!

Words can stir up trouble.  Words can create drama.  Words can even start fights and wars!  Maybe you have experienced the hurt associated with words.  Maybe your words have caused hurt to another.  It can be easy to make comments about others and even to gossip, but we need to be sure that our tongue and lips are not being mean and deceitful.

When we combine the two sayings from before, we see the importance of watching our tongue and speaking with care, deliberation, and good intent. Our words should not tear each other down, but we should seek to support one another and find peace. Remember that we are to turn from evil and embrace all that is good, to seek peace in the people and world around us.  We can see good days unfolding in front of us if we speak positively with goodness and love!

Draw close to God and choose to have good days by keeping your tongue from evil!

Prayer:
Dear God-
Thank You for giving me good days.  Please help me to fill the days with love and goodness through speaking positive, supportive, and Godly words!  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
