Wounds or Kisses?

"Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy." -Proverbs 27:6 (NASB)
What would you rather have: wounds or kisses?  The answer might seem obvious.  Who wouldn't want kisses and the love that we usually associate with them?  The Bible warns that the choice is not as straightforward as it seems.  We need to consider where the wounds and the kisses are coming from - friends or enemies!

When a friend hurts us, it can feel like betrayal.  However, our friends have a responsibility to be honest and truthful with us, even when it hurts!  God gives us our friends to help us in the journey of life.  Some friends may be with us for many years.  Some friends may come and go in our lives.  Either way, it is better to have the faithful guidance of a friend than the false praise of an enemy.

While the kisses of enemies may feel good at the time, there are ulterior motives hiding behind the kisses.  What feels good now will unravel later, then we will be looking for those honest truthful friends!

If you have a friend that is able to tell you the truth, count this friend as a blessing...even when what your friend has to say isn't what you want to hear!

Prayer:

Dear God-
Thank You for giving me the friends I need in my life.  I ask that you allow me to know the difference between the false praise of enemies and the truth of a friend.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
